Toshiba Information Systems (UK) Limited – Mobile Communications Division (“Toshiba”) has today announced its entry into the smart handheld devices market with two new Windows Mobile powered, Portégé G500 and Portégé G900.
Toshiba has chosen to use the Windows Mobile software platform for these two devices as it offers users the security, reliability and an interface that they are familiar with in their office environment.
The two devices offer integration between the desktop, laptop and phone eliminating synchronisation headaches. Users will be able to retrieve e-mails with attachments, handle superb quality video streaming, downloading of video clips and get full multimedia messaging.
The Portégé G500 and Portégé G900 provide a unique and enhanced level of security, that fingerprint recognition offers. This increasing need for security was demonstrated in a recent survey by Toshiba which found that 90 per cent of entrepreneurs in Europe store sensitive business information and documents on their connected handheld but as many as 22 per cent admitted losing such a phone1 . Using fingerprint authentication to access the Portégé G500 and Portégé G900 enables the devices to be secured in a simple and easy fashion. The finger print sensor can also be used to navigate the phone’s menu and lock these devices.
“By creating these devices with biometric fingerprint authentication, we have developed products that are safe, secure and easy to use. These devices build on our heritage in notebook computing and we believe they will appeal to mobile professionals who want to take advantage of mobile computing and manage the security of their confidential information in a simple and intuitive manner - as proved through recent research,” said Peter Ford, Marketing Director, Toshiba Information Systems (UK) Limited.
