Today's users expect Internet access and want to enjoy all the benefits of the World Wide Web. This is no problem with Toshiba notebooks, as all are now fitted with a standard internal V.90 modem. Surfing the Internet is now also possible using a mobile phone, but currently only at data transfer rates that prevent it being really enjoyable (and with significantly higher call charges compared to a land line!).
But this will doubtless all change as technology advances, and Toshiba already offers accessory kits that allow you to connect your notebook to a mobile phone. Doing away with the need for a fixed line opens up all kinds of exciting prospects, and this is certainly an area to watch.
ISDN
ISDN cards are also now available from several vendors. Combo cards that support both GSM and ISDN are the ideal choice if you want to use your mobile for surfing or checking your e-mail.
Note that communication always involves increased power consumption, so wherever possible make sure there's a power socket handy.
You also need to be aware that your card may not always work, since different ISDN standards apply in some countries.
